Why a Live Cooking Station Changes the Energy of Your Event

There's a moment at almost every event we run a live station at. Someone hears the sound, the chopping, the sizzle, and they come over to look. Then someone else comes. Before long there's a crowd, and the food hasn't even been served yet.

There's a moment at almost every event we run a live station at. Someone hears the sound, the chopping, the sizzle, the scrape of the griddle, and they come over to look. Then someone else comes. Then five more. Before long there's a crowd, and the food hasn't even been served yet.

That doesn't happen with a buffet.

What a live cooking station actually does

A buffet is convenient. Guests walk up, serve themselves, sit down. It does the job. A live station is different. The food being made in front of you is interactive in a way that catering rarely is. Guests watch the chef work, ask questions, see their food being made. It creates a moment, and moments are what people remember about an event.

We've catered hundreds of events. The ones people message us about afterwards are almost always the ones with a live station.

What we offer

Kothu Roti

Chopped flatbread stir-fried on a flat iron with spices, egg and your choice of meat. The sound alone gets people's attention from across the room.

Hoppers (Appam)

Sri Lankan lace crepes cooked fresh in small iron pans. Light, crispy at the edges, soft in the middle. One of the most visually striking things we do.

Dosa

Thin, fermented rice crepes cooked on a large flat iron. Crispy, golden, served with sambals and chutneys. Works beautifully for both intimate gatherings and large events.

Does it work for all event sizes?

Yes. We've run live stations at weddings for 400 people, corporate events for 80, and private parties for 30. The size doesn't matter as much as people think. What matters is that the food is made fresh, right there, for your guests.

It pairs well with a wider buffet if you want variety, or it can stand alone as the centrepiece for more casual gatherings.

What do guests say?

Pretty much every review we get that mentions a live station says the same thing. It was the highlight. People who might not have spoken to each other end up gathered around the station, watching, chatting, sharing food. It breaks the ice in a way nothing else does.
